Glasshoughton Welfare v Long Eaton United 27/10/2007 |
LONG EATON :- Smith, Holmes, McGinty, Hallam, Stryzewski, Weston, Parker, Wilkinson (Beldham 88), Blair, Steadman, Fowkwes (Buick 80), Downie.
The Blues were without both Mickey Allsop and Josh Watts with Marc Sytryzewski and Matt Hallam pairing up in the centre and Manager Craig Weston coming in for Danny Beldham who was on the bench.
In the early part of the game Steadman went close on a couple of occasions, first just failing to reach a quick Weston free kick and then mistiming his shot when the ball had come back to him following a Parker shot.
On 19 min Wilkinson was put through on goal by Stryzewski but his shot on the run was easily saved by keeper Clark.. The Blues fell behind on 20 min when a free kick by Jermaine Manners flew across the area and Richard Britten got the last touch to divert it past the outstretched hand of keeper Smith. The Blues were unfortunate to be behind having had the lions share of the play with keeper Clark being the busier of the two keepers.
In the second half the Blues pressed on and after the home goal had had several narrow escapes, mainly from Blair and Steadman, the Blues finally drew level when Wilkinson powered into the box and beat keeper Clarke with a shot which went in of a post.
It had been non stop pressure from the Blues with Weston clipping the top of the bar with a cross shot and substitute Buick going agonisingly close in the dying minutes to get the winning goal which their second half display deserved

LONG EATON :- Smith, Holmes, McGinty, Hallam, Allsop (Watts 63), Stryzewski, Beldham (Fowkes 65), Parker, Blair (McCall 75), Steadman, Wilkinson.
The Blues gave a debut to new signing Danny Blair from Hednesford which meant Mat McCall found himself on the bench.

The visitors recovered from this early onslaught and took the lead in the 17th minute when full back Stuart Waite made a good run down the right and and took a return pass from Philips and drilled the ball low past keeper Steve Smith into the far corner of the net.
For the Blues Steadman and Blair were combining well and it was Blair who went close to equalizing but his goalbound shot was blocked on the line. Eccleshill were still dangerous with Andy Howard going close with a overhead kick just before the break after a series of corners for the visitors.
On the restart Mick Allsop was narrowly wide with a header from a Danny Beldham free kick and Styzewski fired over after being set up by Blair. It was Blair who almost opened his account on 65 minutes but his well struck free kick from the edge of the box hit the outside of the post with the visiting keeper beaten.
For all there endeavor the Blues could not break the visitors defence down suffering another home defeat after their recent good form away from home.
