Armthorpe Welfare v Long Eaton United 29/9/2007
LEUFC Team: Steve Smith, Adam Holmes, Paul McGinty, Micky Allsop, Josh Watts, Marc Strzyzewski, Matt McCaul, Danny Beldham, Alex Steadman, Matt Hallam, Graham Fowkes subs: David Wilkinson, Ian Buick, Tom Widdison.

Micky Allsop returned to the starting line up partnered by Josh Watts and Matt Hallam started off up front with Alex Steadman. Long Eaton started the brighter of the two teams and the first chance of the game fell to Josh Watts on 5 mins but he didnt get any contact on the ball and it flew across Armthorpes box without anyone getting any contact on the ball.

Marc Strzyzewski well hit shot from a free kick was saved by the Armthopre keeper on 8 mins. Alex Steadman made a good chance for himself when a ball was played into the box and he swivelled and shot but again the keeper had it covered. On 13 mins Micky Allsop played a great ball into the channel for Steadman who should have done better with his effort on goal.

Armthorpes first goal attempt came on 15mins when their shot was blocked and from the rebound they hit the crossbar. Armthorpe were slowly working their way into the game bt it was Long Eaton who had the next chance on 32mins. Steadman again making a good run and turning inside brought a good save out of the keeper, the rebound fell to Matt Hallam who had to snap at the shot and again it was parried by their keeper.

Armthorpe broke the deadlock with the last kick of the half when their no.9 got to the by line and was allowed inside to easy, but hit a well struck shot which gave the home team a half time lead.

HALF TIME SCORE : ARMTHORPE WELFARE 1 - 0 LONG EATON UNITED

The hardworking Matt McCaul hit a shot on 48mins but it lacked power. Long Eatons best chance of the game came from a good cross from the right but Fowkes could not hit the target with the ball clearing the crossbar. On 71 mins Long Eaton gave away possession of the ball when attacking and and the Armthorpe full back made a cross field clearance which their no 9 did well to get on the end of. He ran at Watts and with a neat trick wrong footed him and thrashed a left footed shot into the top corner.

Long Eaton made 3 quick substitutions with David Wilkinson coming on for Graham Fowkes, Tom Widison coming on for Micky Allsop and Ian Buick coming on for Danny Beldham and went three up front for the last 20mins. Half chances fell to Matt Hallam and Matt McCaul but it was Armthorpe who took all 3 points.

FULL TIME SCORE ...... ARMTHOPRPE WELFARE 2 - 0 LONGEATON UNITED

NCEL Midweek Match Review
ncelwhitesmall.gif27th September, 2007 Midweek Match Review

There was a fifty percent success for NCEL teams in this midweek's FA Vase Second Round Qualifying Replays. Of the four sides in action, two will take their place in the First Round Proper on the 6th of October.

Armthorpe Welfare had a long trip to the North East to face Chester-le-Street Town but the journey home would have flown by after a late rally saw them win 2-1. Scott Emmerson had given the hosts an early lead and that's how it stayed until the final quarter-of-an-hour when strikes from James Walker and Darren Erskine set up a tie at home to Jarrow Roofing Bolden CA. and, a 49th-minute Alex Steadman goal saw Long Eaton United conquer visitors Nuneaton Griff, 1-0, and will now go to Hinckley Downes in the next round.

South Normanton Athletic and Lincoln Moorlands Railway, however, have had to wave goodbye to competition. Athletic were beaten 3-0 at Central Midlands side Dunkirk in what can be considered a big shock. Reports say that the home side thoroughly deserved their victory with a Scott Pratt goal and a brace from Neil Thompson all in the first half sending them through.

Railway, meanwhile, lost disappointingly 4-1 at home to Ely City with two goals from Robbie Mason and one each from Lee James and Simon Warren for the visitors.

Rushcliffe Ladies v Long Eaton United Ladies - 23/9/2007
Team: Cariro Hopewell, Aime Bramman, Chloe Madden, Michelle Harrison, Hayley Armstrong, Jodie Hancock, Laura Robinson, Laura Bowler, Marie Walker, Kirsty Gibbons Subs: Varly Hayes, Emma Hawkins

Long Eaton United Ladies travelled to Grantham on Sunday to play Rushcliffe Ladies. The first half saw Long Eaton keeper Cairo Hopewell tested making 3 good saves, before Jodie Hancock but Long Eaton ahead with a superb header. Rushcliffe equalised when a corner was bundled after a defensive mix up. Both teams had further chances in the first half, but Long Eaton’s Kirsty Gibbons put Long Eaton Eaton ahead 2 -1

In the second half both teams battled, but it was Long Eaton who took a further advantage when Gibbons again scored for Long Eaton. Long Eaton dominated play for most of the second half, which was taken advantage of by Hancock, who made a fine run up the pitch to place the ball in the back of Rushcliffe’s net, bringing the score to 4 -1. Long Eaton then had a lapse of concentration in defence which opened the scoring to Rushcliffe. 4-2.

Gibbons for Long Eaton scored once more, to complete her hat-trick and to bring the final score to 5-1 to the Long Eaton Ladies.

Nuneaton Griff v Long Eaton United FA Vase.............3-3 AET

Todays Team: Steve Smith, Adam Holmes, Paul McGinty, Josh Watts, Matt Hallam, Danny Beldham, Marc Strzyzewski, Matt McCaul, Alex Steadman, Ben Roffey, Graham Fowkes Subs : David Wilkinson, Tom Widison, Ian Buick, Ashley Whelehan, Craig Weston.

Allsop has still not recovered from his groin injury and Danny Beldham replaced David Wilkinson for todays FA Vase cup tie against Nuneaton Griff.

The Blues squandered a half time lead of 3-0 and were forced into a replay after extra time at The Pingles Stadium with Nuneaton Griff showing a spirited second half comeback.

The Blues started well and were on top from the whistle with chances falling to Steadman, Roffey and nun2.jpgFowkes.The home side were having some decent possession and put some good balls in the box but were unable to capitalise. Alex Steadman broke the deadlock on 34 mins when he got in front of his marker and converted a near post cross by Paul McGinty.

Steve Smith did well with a double save from Tom Moore but it was Steadman who increased the lead with a fine individual goal on 38mins, rounding 4 Nuneaton players including their goalkeeper to cooly walk the ball home. Then just before half time Steadman got his hatrick after Marc Strzyzewski had a good effort saved from his free kick and Steadman was on hand to fire and angled shot off the rebound.

Half Time Score 0 - 3

Arnold v Long Eaton United - 15/9/2007

Long Eaton made a couple of changes to todays squad with Micheal Buckley being injured and Josh Watts being rested with a groin injury.

United : Steve Smith, Adam Holmes, Paul McGinty, Mick Allsop, Matt Hallam, Marc Strzyzewski, Matt McCaul, David Wilkinson, Ben Roffey, Alex Steadman, Graham Fowkes.... Subs: Danny Beldham, Scott Downie, Craig Weston.

roffey.jpgLong Eaton started the game well with Ben Roffey winning the aerial battle with his opponent and creating chances for his strike partner Steadman. Long Eaton quickly settled into some flowing football and was creating goal scoring opportunities without being able to capitalise on them. Micky Allsop had 2 good chances from Graham Fowkes corners and brought saves out of the young Arnold keeper.

Fowkes himself had a couple of good opportunities after cutting inside from the left and getting a shot off at the Arnold goal. Whilst Long Eaton was having the lion’s share of the game, Arnold also had a few decent scoring opportunities. Ex Long Eaton player Dave Durrant was playing on the right side of midfield for Arnold and his pace took him past 3 Long Eatonmicky.jpg players but his shot didn’t test Steve Smith. They also created a chance out of the offside rule when they played a straight ball over Long Eaton’s defence. With the Arnold strikers in an offside position their wide midfielder came storming through unmarked and only the bravery and quick thinking of Smith in the Long Eaton goal prevented a great goal scoring opportunity with a grounded tackle 18yards out.

The best opportunity of the half fell to Steadman. Roffey won his header and the ball fell to Steadman who closed down on the Arnold goal, he hit a powerful shot which came back off the post and fell to Marc Strzyzewski who hit a side foot volley which was again blocked on the line. The Blues had dominated the first half but had nothing for it

Half Time Score 0-0
