Long Eaton v Selby Town 8 September 2007 |
Long Eaton :- Smith, Holmes, McGinty, Allsop, Watts, Styzewski, Wilkinson, McCall, Steadman,(Roffey 70), Downie(Buckley 70), Fowkes. Sub not used Hallam.
Referee:- Mr D.Sullivan (Retford)
The Blues made two changes from the mid week cup tie team, David Wilkinson making his first start of the season and Josh Watts replacing Matt Hallam at the back. The Blues were fortunate to go in at the break only a goal down against a very strong and workmanlike Selby side.
The visitors went ahead after only two minutes when a high bouncing ball was misjudged by Josh Watts and it fell to Steven Lyon who hooked the ball past keeper Steve Smith from a tight angle.
The visitors could have increased there lead on 20 min when Adam Russell was put clear by Adam Lee but he fired way over with only Smith to beat.
Little had been seen of the Blues attack, before Scott Downie had a goal bound header deflected for a corner and a Marc Stryzewski free kick had been blocked. Allsop was again outstanding at the back for the Blues; his contribution this season has been excellent.

NCEL Midweek Match Review |
NCEL Midweek Match Review - More from the NCEL
Gedling Town were the biggest winners as they defeated Meir KA, 5-0, at the Riverside Ground. An Alan Jefferies brace had them two-up by the interval before further strikes from Ben Cobley, Nicky Kennerdale and Carl Westcarr completed the rout. They will now host Mickleover Sports in an all-NCEL tie after Sports were the winners of a seven-goal thriller at Long Eaton United. Tony Law opened the scoring for Mickleover on 11 minutes before Matt McCaul levelled matters for their Premier Division rivals. However, Law regained the advantage for his team before the break but Long Eaton fought back to equalise again through Mark Strzyzewski on 49 minutes. Law completed his hat-trick to make it 3-2 nine minutes later before United drew back level for the third time on the hour mark through Alex Steadman. But, it was Sports who would have the final say as they went ahead for the fourth time through Jamie Barrett and, this time, managed to maintain their lead for 4-3 victory.
In two other all-NCEL tussles, Rainworth Miners Welfare had Adam Lillie to thank after his brace saw them beat visitors Teversal 2-1, whilst Gavin Hunter's 60th-minute goal saw Hallam claim a victory by the same scoreline at AFC Emley.

Long Eaton United v Micklover Sports - FA Cup Replay 4/09/2007 |
In an excellent cup tie both sides came out to stake a place in the next round, and the Blues almost scored in the first minute when Graham Fowles just couldn’t control the ball and tap it over the line after a Danny Beldham shot had been blocked.
Mickleover replied with efforts by David Holmes and Tony Laws going narrowly over before the visitors took the lead through Laws who beat keeper Steve Smith after good work by Jamie Barrett had put him clear and he beat Smith easily with the Blues defence static.
The visitors were having the better of the encounter but the Blues levelled on 37min with a Mat McCall penalty after Alex Steadman had been brought down. Mickleover went in front again just before the break when Mat Hallam and keeper Smith both went for the same ball but allowed it to fall free to the delight of Tony Laws who netted his second of the night.
Josh Watts and David Wilkinson replaced Danny Beldham and Mat Hallam after the break and it only took the Blues 4min to get back on level terms, goalkeeper Richard Froggatt spilling an attempted clearance and Marc Styrzewski gratefully netted the loose ball.
The game was now end to end and the lively Laws completed his hat-rick when he broke clear and rounded keeper Smith after Wilkinson had lost possession on the edge of the box. The Blues were not to be out done and they made it 3-3 with the best goal of the night from Alex Steadman who beat the visiting keeper with a blockbuster of a shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
Extra time looked on the cards until an uncharacteristic lack of concentration by the normally reliable Adam Holmes let in Laws, who squared the ball to Jamie Barrett who beat Smith with a low drive. A disappointing result for the Blues in what was one of the best games seen at Grange Park and credit must go to both sides for an excellent cup tie.

Long Eaton United Ladies v Hunscote Sports & Social - 2/09/2007 |
Long Eaton United started slowly in their opening league game. After which an early goalmouth scramble led to the Ladies being 1 – 0 down to Hunscote. The rest of the first half saw Long Eaton struggle to get their passing game going, with the squad looking disjointed. Even though the first half was dominated by Hunscote there were no further goals.
In the second half there were some tactical changes made, which saw Long Eaton take control of the game and press forward. Both sides had numerous chances but failed to hit the target.
Long Eaton turned up the level of play and passed a long ball up the middle of the pitch which was picked up by Jodie Hancock who made a run at goal. Just outside the box Hancock was brought down by Hunscote number 7 who was then shown the yellow card. Captain Chloe Madden stepped up to take the free kick and placed the ball in the back of the net bringing the score to 1 all.
Final score 1 - 1

FA Cup REPLAY - Grange Park 4th September |
|
Mickleover Sports v Long Eaton United ended in a 0 - 0 draw today, bringing the tie to Grange Park
Long Eaton:- Smith, Holmes, McGinty, Allsop, Watts, Stryzewski, Beldham, McCall, Steadman, Downie, Fowkes(Buckley 80) subs not used Roffey, Widdowson, Weston, Wheleman
Referee MR L.Blackwell (Wallsall)
The Blues were still without Mat Hallam and David Wilkinson (holliday) and also the injured Nathan Parker for the cup fixture against local rivals Mickleover Sports and were looking to put behind them their nightmare showing against lowly Thackley last Monday.
The Blues started in fine style with Danny Beldham having a fine run and shot early on but after 9min the Blues had a let off when a short back pass by Josh Watts left keeper Steve Smith a lot to do, but he came out and smothered a Tony Law shot for a fruitless corner.
The Blues began to dominate the play and were pretty well camped in the Mickleover half for long spells with some good football being played , with Scott Downie and Alex Steadman giving the experienced Mark Blount and Colin Hoyle plenty of to do.. On 15 min Downie was just over with a header from a Beldham cross ,then Steadman was foiled by keeper Froggatt after being put through by the excallant Micky Allsop before Matt McCall fired over from the edge of the box.
The best chance of the half fell to Scott Downie, but his deft chip was brilliantly saved by keeper Froggatt with the Blues going in at the break unlucky not to be ahead.
