Long Eaton United FA Cup match report+ pictures
Long Eaton United started their FA Cup bid with a good old fashion 70’s breakfast of beans on toast; the team sporting their 70’s outfits arrived at the club house at around midday. Managers Craig & Steve took to the kitchen to cook the team their breakfasts with the assistance of Amy.
Rumour had it; the beans were for extra lift!! To reach those balls in the air.
Below you can see some of the pictures from todays pre-match breakfast
Match Report
The Blues continued their bright start to the season with a win over Brdgnorth Town in the F.A.Cup preliminary round at Grange Park.
The Blues got off to a dream start with a goal after 2 minutes. A short free kick by Styzewski to Adam Hlomes was in turn released to Alex Sreadman out on the right and his cross was turned in at the near post by Michael Buckley.
The Blues almost doubled their score but a fine header by Ben Roffey clipped the top of the bar after good work by Graham Fowkes. The blues were well on top and further chances fell to Roffey and Buckley before Bridgnorth had their first attempt on goal after 36min when keeper Steve Smith got down well to save a fierce Mark Neville free kick.

Long Eaton United v Arnold Town 14 August 2007
After last Saturdays possitive start to the season we were keen to continue the momentum and pleased to have a chance to play again tonight.
Some changes were forced and others made to tonights team with Steve Smith and Paul McGinty being unavailable and Micheal Buckley taking his place on the bench to give Scott Downie his first start of the season.Ashley Whelehan made his debut in the Long Eaton goal. The 16 year old keeper has had a good pre season and with the absence of Steve Smith due to work committments, we were confident Ashley was ready to step into the strating line up.
Team : Ashley Whelehan, Danny Beldham, Adam Holmes, Micky Allsop (c), Matt Hallam, Marc Strzyzewski, Nathan Parker, Alex Steadman, Scott Downie, Ben Roffey, Graham Fowkes..... Subs : David Wilkinson, Matt McCaul, Michael Buckley.
"First half didnt really ever spring into action. The game was played at a decent pace but both sides looked a little nervous"
Arnold kicked off the game and The Blues went in search of their second win of the season. To be honest, the game in the first half didnt really ever spring into action. The game was played at a decent pace but both sides looked a little nervous and Arnold turned up playing just one striker up front.....the ex Long Eaton player Lee Sutton. Ashley Whelehan was called into action early on and did well with a clean punch which cleared the danger area. Scott Downies pace created a couple of penalty appeals but neither were given.
"Beldham hammered a low ball into the area from the free kick but Long Eaton werent able to get the necessary tap in"
The first had Downie working the channels and as he accelerated into the area the Arnold defender made a last ditch tackle which he just about got right. The second penalty appeal seemed more clear cut....Downie again got clear of the Arnold defence with his pace and the keepers challenge was, to be polite, a crude challenge ! The referee's assistant signalled a free kick and the Arnold keeper ended up with a yellow card....both dubious decisions ! Beldham hammered a low ball into the area from the free kick but Long Eaton werent able to get the necessary tap in.
Downie won another free kick when the Arnold captain clearly pulled him back and again received a yellow card for the offence. Strzyzewski took the free kick quickly from 30 yards and his curling shot went narrowly wide with the keeper beaten.
A good move through midfield led to Strzyzewski swinging in a ball from the left which looked to end with a goal but Roffey couldnt get a toe to it and the ball ran out for a goal kick.
Both sides were settling down but neither could come up with the little bit of quality to find the back of the net and they went in at half time even.
Well, it seems like yesterday when we started pre-season but we have all been looking forward to our first league game. We've had a good pre-season with some encouraging performances and the increased competition in the squad has given us an extra edge to our game.
We have had some difficult decisions to make on todays team but if we are to successfully compete in the top half of this league we need a good squad......its not just about having 14 capable players. The 14 involved today might be different in the next game and level of competition and consistency will be a large factor in how we progress this season.
Todays team : Steve Smith, Adam Holmes , Paul McGinty, Micky Allsop, Matt Hallam, Marc Strzyzewski, Nathan Parker, Alex Steadman, Ben Roffey, Michael Buckley, Graham Fowkes..... Subs: Scott Downie, Matt McCaul, Danny Beldham.
First Half
"Difficult decisions to make on todays team"
Alex Steadman made his league debut
Long Eaton started the game well and from the whistle looked in control of this opening day fixture against a Maltby side who spent a long time topping the table last season. The Blues had some early chances with Nathan Parker looking strong in midfield. In the ninth minute a good passing move lead to Parker getting to the edge of the 18 yard box but he couldnt find the yard he needed to get his shot off, and his goal attempt got blocked from a great attacking position for Long Eaton.
"Allsop needed treatment for a blood injury"
The Blues applied the early pressure in this game with very little response from Maltby. They were reduced to long ball tactics and the Long Eaton defence held a good line which found the Malby forwards off side on several occassion. On the 12th minute another good move lead to Nathan Parker picking up the ball about 20 yards on and his surging run took him into the box and he finished calmly with a precise shot to the keepers right hand side. Half chances fell to Ben Roffey, Micheal Buckley without them being able to increase Long Eatons lead.
