Long Eaton United v Alfreton Town 25 July
The Blues finally got their first friendly under way after 2 postponements against Graham Str Prims and Bolehill Swifts due to waterlogged pitches , when they entertained a strong Alfreton Town side at Grange Park on Wednesday 25 July.
"The Blues started well in the first half against their more experienced opponants - McGinty and Beldham tested Alfreton's keeper Lindley "
The Alfreton side ,who play in the Conference North league included several first class players who manager Nicky Laws has just signed , notably Mat Glass,James Lindley and Laurie Wilson.
The Blues fielded new signings Steve Smith in goal,Ben Roffey and Graham Foulkes in their line up.
The Blues started well in the first half against their more experienced opponants with Roffey and Michael Buckley proving a handfull for the visiting defence, but it was the lively Glass who was the thorn in the Blues defence with his darting runs and sharpe finishing and after going close on a couple of occasions he broke the deadlock on 35 min with a tap in after keeper Smith and two of his defenders had misjudged a cross from the left.
McGinty and Beldham tested Lindley in the Alfreton goal but it was Glass who increased the lead on 41 min when he rounded keeper Smith after an excellant through ball by full back Cockerill.
Mat McCall should have pulled a goal back in the next minute, but fired over an empty net after Buckley had dispossesed keeper Lindley and laid the ball into his path.
The second half saw several changes from both sides but it was obvious the visitors had more streangth in depth than the Blues and added a 3rd goal through McFadzean late in the game.
A good work out for the Blues who played well in the first half but conceded defeat to their stronger neighbours.
Field Lane v Long Eaton United Under 19's
Team: Ashley Whelehan, Darryl Hawkins, Gareth Northover, Luke Britland, Jed Mrnic, Josh Watts (capt.), Jack Whieldon,Daniel Kilbourne, Rob Moulonga, Lynton Francis, Tom Booth. Subs. Simon Gleave, Jimmy Ainsworth, Brett Hayes, Reiss Lindsay.
"Performances from Gleave, with Ainsworth & Northover also taking the managers eye"
Long Eaton Dominated Game throughout on a difficult playing surface, but they endeavoured to pass the ball around on a pitch with a lot of boggy patches on it. Britland scored the only goal of the first half, when he met a Moulonga corner to head powerfully from 15 yards.
A Francis penalty, got the u19's going in the second half. Then debut boy Hayes put Lindsay through for the third, before cooling slotting the fourth himself.
Finally Booth skipped past two challenges before unleashing an unstoppable shot from 25 yards to complete the scoring. Noticeable performances from Gleave, with Ainsworth & Northover also taking the managers eye.
