FA Cup REPLAY - Grange Park 4th September PDF Print E-mail

facup.gifMickleover Sports v Long Eaton United ended in a 0 - 0 draw today, bringing the tie to Grange Park

Long Eaton:- Smith, Holmes, McGinty, Allsop, Watts, Stryzewski, Beldham, McCall, Steadman, Downie, Fowkes(Buckley 80) subs not used Roffey, Widdowson, Weston, Wheleman

Referee MR L.Blackwell (Wallsall)

alexsteadman.jpgThe Blues were still without Mat Hallam and David Wilkinson (holliday) and also the injured Nathan Parker for the cup fixture against local rivals Mickleover Sports and were looking to put behind them their nightmare showing against lowly Thackley last Monday.

The Blues started in fine style with Danny Beldham having a fine run and shot early on but after 9min the Blues had a let off when a short back pass by Josh Watts left keeper Steve Smith a lot to do, but he came out and smothered a Tony Law shot for a fruitless corner.

The Blues began to dominate the play and were pretty well camped in the Mickleover half for long spells with some good football being played , scottdownie.jpgwith Scott Downie and Alex Steadman giving the experienced Mark Blount and Colin Hoyle plenty of to do.. On 15 min Downie was just over with a header from a Beldham cross ,then Steadman was foiled by keeper Froggatt after being put through by the excallant Micky Allsop before Matt McCall fired over from the edge of the box.

The best chance of the half fell to Scott Downie, but his deft chip was brilliantly saved by keeper Froggatt with the Blues going in at the break unlucky not to be ahead.

HALF TIME Mickleover 0 Long Eaton 0

The second half saw the home side step up a pace and after Froggatt had saved well from the lively Steadman ,Rob Spencer headed wide for Mickleover and Colin Hoyle saw his header from a David Holmes free kick hit the outside of the post.

The game had now turned into a very good cup tie and for the Blues Downie just failed to connect with a Steadman cross with the goal at his mercy.

At the other end Tony Laws headed narrowly wide from a Jamie Barrett cross before Steve Smith saved well from a David Holmes free kick.

With play going from end to end ,both sides were looking for that elusive goal to take them into the next round , on 88 minutes Laws hit the post for Mickleover and then in the dying seconds Beldham had a fine chance to settle the tie but his shot from just inside of the area was well saved by keeper Froggatt.

A vastly improved performance by the Blues who now have to replay on Tuesday night at Grange Park.

Final Score Mickleover 0 Long Eaton 0
