Long Eaton United Ladies travelled to Grantham on Sunday to play Rushcliffe Ladies. The first half saw Long Eaton keeper Cairo Hopewell tested making 3 good saves, before Jodie Hancock but Long Eaton ahead with a superb header. Rushcliffe equalised when a corner was bundled after a defensive mix up. Both teams had further chances in the first half, but Long Eaton’s Kirsty Gibbons put Long Eaton Eaton ahead 2 -1
In the second half both teams battled, but it was Long Eaton who took a further advantage when Gibbons again scored for Long Eaton. Long Eaton dominated play for most of the second half, which was taken advantage of by Hancock, who made a fine run up the pitch to place the ball in the back of Rushcliffe’s net, bringing the score to 4 -1. Long Eaton then had a lapse of concentration in defence which opened the scoring to Rushcliffe. 4-2.
Gibbons for Long Eaton scored once more, to complete her hat-trick and to bring the final score to 5-1 to the Long Eaton Ladies.
