LONG EATON;- Smith,Holmes,McGinty,Allsop,Watts,Parker (Weston 82),Beldham (Buick 76),McCall,Strzewski,Steadman,Wilkinson (Fowkes 73) Referee Mr J Price (Bradford)
The Blues got off to the worst possible start when Parkgate went ahead after only 2minutes. The ball was crossed from the right beyond the far post , which was then headed back into the area by Matthew Roney for Steven Ward to hook past the stranded Steve Smith. This shook the Blues into their stride and Darren Boddington did well to push a fierce shot by Alex Steadman round the post for a fruitless corner.
For the home side Fretwell struck the bar with a long range shot but it was the home goalkeeper who was the busier of the two keepers having to make good saves to deny Steadman and Stryzewski before the latter netted but was marginally offside.
The Blues deservedly equalized on 36 min when Steadman was brought down by keeper Bonnington and Mat McCall made no mistake from the spot. A bit of sharp thinking by Styzewski lead to the Blues going in front on the stroke of half time when he took a quick corner which Alex Steadman turned into the net past the helpless Bonnington.
Half Time Parkgate 1 LONG EATON 2
Parkgate had a good chance to get back on level terms in the 47 min but but Ryan Johnson steered a Matt Outram cross the wrong side of the post with keeper Smith beaten. For the Blues Stryzewski was having his best game for a while partnering Steadman up front and it was this combination which saw Steadman go close , driving into the side netting from an acute angle.
The home side equalized on 61 min when Ward, a good two yards off side was allowed to go on and chip keeper Smith . More bad refereeing in the next minute when Parkgate were awarded a dubious penalty for a hand ball by Josh Watts, but justice was done when Smith made a good save from the impressive Matt Outram to keep the Blues on level terms. The home side put the Blues under pressure in the last 10 minutes having a goal disallowed for an infringement, but the Blues held firm to come away with a valuable point from a very good side.
