Long Eaton United Ladies v Linby Ladies - Cup Tie -4/11/2007 PDF Print E-mail

ladies.jpgLong Eaton United Ladies Travelled to Linby for their cup match this weekend.

In the first half Long Eaton dominated the game and creating many chances but fail to finish on target. Linby also had their chances and they were either swept up by the keeper or dealt with by the Long Eaton defence. It was not until 22 minutes before we saw the first goal, this was from Jodie Hancock who lobbed the keeper from 20 yards out. The scoring run continued 2 minutes later when Hancock turned on the ball and raced past the defence and hammered the ball home, giving the Linby keeper no chance.

Another 6 minutes went by before Long Eaton scored again this time it was Kirsty Gibbons who turned on the ball and shot, placing the ball neatly in the back of the net out of the reach of the keeper. 5 minutes from half time Carly Hayes was brought down in the box and Gibbons stepped up to take the penalty which she place in the back of the net, bringing the score to 4 – 0 on the half time whistle.

The second half was a different game for Long Eaton; they created many chances, but never seemed to be able to pull of the same first half performance. Manager Kevin Hancock said after the game “We were the stronger of the 2 sides and should have won this by a cricket score if we had taken the chances we had been presented with. I was pleased with the performance from the Ladies today especially in the first half of the game. We are going to have to work on our second half performance for the next round of the cup. Next week we are at home in a top of the table clash against Corby Stewarts & Lloyds who are 1 point behind us. Kickoff is 2:00pm on Sunday 11th entry is free and should be a very good game between the two sides.”

Player of the Match as voted by Linby Jodie Hancock
