LONG EATON :- Smith, Holmes, McGinty, Watts, Hallam, McCall, Newton, Parker, Downie, Seadman, Stryzewski, Wilkinson, Fowkes, Beldham.
The Blues welcomed back Josh Watts from injury and included new signing Adam Newton in today’s line-up, With the wind at their backs, the Blues did the early pressing with visiting keeper Mark Hales saving an Alex Steadman header from an Adam Holmes cross. With their first attack Rainworth took the lead when Paul McGinty failed to win a tackle on Adam Lilley on the half way line , who then carried the ball to the by line and crossed for Joey Naylor to side foot pass keeper Steve Smith.
It was generally a scrappy game with the blustery conditions not helping matters and neither keeper being seriously challenged. The Blues drew level on the stroke of half time when a partial clearance by the visiting defence fell to Marc Stryzewski who laid the ball into the path of Scot Downie who beat the advancing Mark Hales with a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
HALF TIME 1 - 1
On 47 min Nathan Parker went close to putting the Blues ahead but his glancing header at the near post from a Adam Newton cross was deflected for a corner by Lee Wilkinson. The visitors had a good chance to go ahead, but Joey Naylor blazed over when the ball came out to him after keeper Steve Smith had palmed a cross shot onto the face of the bar.
The Blues were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, Mark Stryzewski’s shot being charged down and Alex Steadman follow up shot being deflected for a corner. Steadman then went on a good run beating three defenders before being budled off the ball when he was about to shoot but appeals for a penalty were turned down. The visitors went in front on 62 min with a shot out of the blue from Danny Bainbridge who had just been waved back on to the pitch after injury, his rising strike from 25 yds nestling into the corner of the net.
The Blues came back with keeper Mark Hales doing well to tip over a Scott Downie header before on 71 min the visitors went further ahead with a fine individual goal by Adam Lilley who weaved his way past Josh Watts to curl a superb shot into the roof of the net to put the game beyond the home sides reach. Just of late nothing seems to going for the Blues with several players losing confidence with the management trying different formations to right the problem.
