Long Eaton United Ladies played host to league rivals this weekend Corby Stewarts & Lloyds In the top of the league clash
Long Eaton failed to get into the game and at times were being overrun by Corby. This first half was a stalemate between the two sides, but with Corby applying the more pressure which saw the Long Eaton keeper tested on several occasions. I
n the second half Long Eaton regained the advantage over Corby and began to take back control and within the first few minutes of kick off Corby conceded a corner, which was taken by Carly Hayes, with Laurie O'Shea on the receiving end hammered home a shot into the roof of the net, leaving the Corby keeper no chance, 1 – 0 nil to Long Eaton. Corby now stepping up their game, continued to outplay Long Eaton and it was not long before Corby had equalised. With Corby still playing the better football, but around the 75th minute mark Long Eaton took the advantage against the play when Jodie Hancock slipped the ball through to Sarah Harrison who scored from a cross shot. It was looking better for Long Eaton, but Corby once again pressed forward in search of an equaliser and with 10 minutes to go found the back of the Long Eaton net.
Kevin Hancock said “this was a disappointing performance, we was 2 – 1 up and should have taken all 3 points. In the end we was lucky to come away with the draw which still means we are 1 point in front of Corby and top of the league” Chloe Madden was Player of the Match
