Long Eaton United Ladies v Hinckley United - 25/11/2007 PDF Print E-mail
Long Eaton United Ladies were away this weekend to Hinckley United. In a game that did not thrill the crowds. However Long Eaton started brightly with Jodie Hancock running through in the first minute, but sending her shot wide. Hinckley were allowed to get on top of play by an inept performance by the Long Eaton players, although Hinckley had control of the game they could not create any chances again Long Eaton. In the 40th Minute Hancock again ran clear of the Hinckley defence and again failed to find the back of the net putting the ball wide. From the resulting goal kick, the ball fell to Hancock who made no mistake this time and placed the ball in the back of the net to take Long Eaton 1 – nil up.

In the second half Long Eaton struggled to put a pass together, but were at least playing with a bit more passion, but Hinckley still controlled the game in midfield. Hinckley created many chances but found that Cairo Hopewell was in good form in goal. Hopewell on several occasions kept Long Eaton in the game. With only 10 minutes left on the clock Long Eaton managed to get a ball through to Hancock who made a run into the Hinckley area and was brought down by a defender. Kirsty Gibbons stepped up to take the spot kick and placed the ball in the back of the net to take Long Eaton 2 – nil up. However in the 90th minute Hinckley made a break and a Hinckley forward lobbed Hopewell to bring the score to 2 – 1. Long Eaton managed to hold off any further attacks until the final whistle.

Manager Kevin Hancock said after the match”It was an abysmal performance, but at the end of the day it was another 3 points” Unfortunately Kevin would not comment any further on the game except to say that Chloe Madden was Player of the Match, but he felt that no one stood out today.
