With a depleted side ravaged by suspension and injury the Blues had the daunting task of having to travel to highflying Selby. Long Eaton were without Mickey Allsop and Matt McCall (suspended) with Adam Holmes, Scott Downie, James Carder and Dave Wilkinson injured and Channon North unavailable through work commitments Manager Craig Weston had to draft in reserve players Kamarny Gregoire and Courtney Bonnick with Ben Burton and Jim Hewson on the bench.
On a uneven pitch the Blues started well with Alex Steadman bringing out a good save from keeper Adam Mitchell after three minutes. Debutant Courtney Bonnick was showing some neat touches but it was Michael Buckley who opened the scoring on ten minutes, side footing home after a good run and cross by Alex Steadman. Tom Matthews shot well wide for the home side when well placed before Michael Buckley again shaved the top of the bar after a clever dummy by Bonnick.
The Blues had had the lions share of the play in the first half hour but Selby went close to equalizing when Bruno Holden clipped the top of the bar. Wayne White made a good double save to keep his goal intact and with seconds ticking away before the break a uncharacteristic error by the outstanding White, palming a harmless cross into the path of Adam Russel led to the home side equalizing.
Half Time SELBY 1 LONG EATON 1
Ben Burton replaced Kimarney Gregoire on the restart and with his first touch went agonizingly close with a shot past the post with keeper Mitchell beaten. At the other end Holden crashed a shot against the post after the ball had dropped kindly for him Twice Alex Steadman worked his way past his marker but shot wide on both occasions in what was now becoming a end to end battle with Josh Watts and Marc Stryzewski outstanding at the back for the Blues. A good performance from the Blues who were unfortunate not to come home with maximum points in a entertaining game.
