Long Eaton United Ladies v Nuneaton Borough 3/02/2008 PDF Print E-mail
Long Eaton United Ladies played host to Nuneaton Borough this weekend, and starting with a strong wind at their backs, Long Eaton started brightly with Jodie Hancock hitting the bar and perhaps should have scored. Long Eaton took the lead after 20minutes when Aime Brammen knocked a great ball into the box for Hancock to fire past the keeper.

With the strong wind playing havoc Long Eaton went 2 – 0 up when Chloe Madden fired home a free kick from the edge of the area. Just before half time Long Eaton had a chance to go 3 – 0 up when Kirsty Gibbson was brought down in the box, Gibbson took the resulting penalty and hit over the bar.

In the second half Long Eaton started brightly playing into the wind but failed to take any early chances. Nuneaton started to push players forward as they played long balls from the defence for the forwards to chase down. Long Eaton became Nuneaton’s best players when they failed to get to grips with the conditions. The Nuneaton pressure finally paid off on 78 minutes when the defence was none existent and a Nuneaton player slotted the ball home to make 2 – 1. Nuneaton kept up the pressure and squanders several chances to equalise with the Long Eaton defence in disarray.

Long Eaton held on to secure 3 points and to keep their place at the top of the league.

Kevin Hancock said “The wind ruined the game, but we as a side did not adjust to the conditions as we should have, which made us look terrible. Hopefully the injured players will be back soon and give competition for places”
