LONG EATON:- White, Newton, McGinty, Watts, Stryzewski, McCall(Carder 80), Steadman, Parker, North, Buckley(Bonnick 65), Fowkes(Jenas 67)
In this local derby the surprising statistic was the nine bookings handed out by the referee (7 Sports, 2 Long Eaton) in a game which was hard fought but hardly a bad tackle all afternoon.
The Blues dominated the first half but could not turn their good work into goals. The best chance of the half fell to Channon North but his powerful drive was turned round the post by keeper Danny Tollerfield. Alex Steadman was proving a hand full for the visitors and he went close with a volley before Sports had their only worthwhile attempt on goal of the half, but Mark Blounts header from a Paul Wraith free kick sailed wide.
Channon North had the ball in the net but was ruled off side but for all their pressure the Blues could not break down the Sports defence, marshalled well by captain Mark Blount.

Sports came more into the game in the second half but it was the Blues who looked the most likely to score. On 67 minutes Channon North had a header cleared off the line by Tom Betteridge before on 70 minutes Adam Newton broke the deadlock with a half volley through a crowded goalmouth after keeper Tollerfield had cleared the ball under pressure from a Matt McCall corner. Substitute Rian Jenas volleyed over before Sports got back on level terms through David Holmes, who scored direct from a corner, the ball eluding everyone and went in off the far post. On 84 minutes Tollerfield did well to tip over a Coutney Bonnick header and then the Blues hit the bar with a James Carder free kick Sports almost snatched victory through Colin Hoyle, but his goal bound shot was brilliantly turned round the post by keeper Wayne White.
