The Blues were without Marc Stryzewki(suspension) and Graham Fowkes and Adam Holmes with injuries fort his afternoons fixture against Armthorpe Welfare who sat three places above the Blues having played three games more.
On a blustery afternoon and a bone hard pitch without a blade of grass to be seen due to at least 3 games a week being played on it, good football was going to be hard to come by. The Blues ,now six games unbeaten , dominated the first half to such an extent , goalkeeper Wayne White had only one save to make. On 9min Mat Mccall had a shot deflected for an unproductive corner before Nathan Parker shot over after being set up by Channon North. Alex Steadman fired into the side netting before Wayne White was brought into action saving from Stuart Preston. On 30min Scott Downie fired just wide after making space in the box before the Blues deservedly went ahead through Nathan Parker. He collected a long clearance from Josh Watts and fired in an unstoppable volley over the outstretched hands of keeper Leigh Graves. Rian Jenas made a fine run but his final ball lacked conviction and the chance went begging. Just before the break Kirk Wheeler headed over for the visitors ,who had been very disappointing.
Half Time LONG EATON 1 ARMTHORPE 0
The visitors made more of a game in the second half without troubling keeper White, with young Josh Watts and Adam Newton outstanding at the back for the Blues. The out of form Channon North was replaced by Michael Buckley and it was he who increased the lead when he beat the advancing keeper Graves with a deft chip after being put through by Alex Steadman. Adam Newton had the ball in the net ,but was ruled offside before Stuart Preston had a good run and shot for the visitors which went wide. Full marks to the referee who let the game flow without any card waving, as we have seen in recent matches. The Blues can now look forward to a mouth watering encounter with high flying Glapwll next Saturday.
