Long Eaton Ladies travelled to Welbeck in their quarter finales cup tie and soon found themselves a gaol down due to poor defending. Long Eaton got back into the game and equalised when a Sarah Harrison cross was hammered home by Jodie Hancock.
Long Eaton never really got to grips in midfield allowing Welbeck to create chance after chance and just before half time a Welbeck winger got in behind the defence and the resulting cross was not cleared by a hesitant defence allowing a Welbeck forward to tap in.
Long Eaton started the second half more positively, passing the ball round and causing the welbeck defence problems, but without causing the Welbeck keeper any.
With 15 minutes to go Welbeck went 3 – 1 up, then a Welbeck forward was brought down in the box by Chloe Maddan and scored from the resulting spot kick. Long Eaton pushed forward in an attempt to selvage the game, but in doing so, left gaps in the rear which was exploited by the Welbeck forwards, who scored 3 more goals in the last 5 minutes.
Kevin Hancock said after the match “we punched above our weight this season and certain players inadequacies are now being found out. Players not turning up and letting us down is not helping. We have got to get our heads down for the last 3 games of the season to aim for promotion”
