On a greasy pitch due to heavy rain, the Blues were looking to redeem themselves after their midweek defeat against in form Brodsworth. They deservedly took the lead on 13 min when Alex Steadman coolly beat his marker after being put through by Channon North and fired a low shot across keeper Carl Zaborowski into the corner of the net.

The keeper had earlier denied Paul McGinty with a good save deflecting the ball wide after a good run from the full back. The football from the Blues was excellent on the tricky surface and it seemed only a matter of time before they increased their lead, but with a combination of good goal keeping, dogged defending and a large slice of luck the home side held out to the break. Zaborowski was outstanding, denying Steadman with an acrobatic save just before the interval after his shot was deflected and such was the superiority of the Blues

Ecclesill’s first worthwhile shot on goal was in the 44th minute when White saved well from Andy Howland. The centre back pairing of teenagers Josh Watts and Danny Chambers was outstanding with Matt McCall and Marc Stryzewski controlling the midfield.

Half Time Eccleshill 0 Long Eaton 1

The second period continued with the Blues on top with Channon North heading a McCall corner over. The home side had their best chance, but Ross Haywood , in space ,dragged his shot woefully wide, with only keeper White to beat. The Blues went further ahead on 61min when Michael Buckley won the ball on the halfway line and released Channon North with an astute pass and the big centre forward rounded the keeper and fired into a empty net. Eccleshill replied , with a deflected shot by Ben Hardy superbly tipped away by Wayne White , and then White had to be at his best holding a fierce John Lamb shot at the base of the post. The Blues made three substitutions in the last quarter and controlled the game well until the final whistle

FINAL SCORE Eccleshill 0 Long Eaton 1

A good result for the Blues, answering the critics who only seem available with their comments when things go wrong. All credit must go to the management duo who put so much time and effort into the club.
