LONG EATON :- Rollins, Chambers, McGinty, Allsop(Newton75) Watts, Stryzewski, Buckley(McCall 75) Parker, Bonnick, Steadman(North 75)
Referee Mr. A. Howitt (Grantham)
The Blues had keeper Marc Rollins making his debut , replacing Wayne White who was recalled by Derbyshire C.C. and also had Micky Allsop back after injury.
With the strong icy wind in their favour, the Blues started brightly and should have gone in front after 5 min when Alex Steadman was clean through but his shot cannoned of keeper Lee Cowell’s legs to safety, but the reprieve was short lived for the visitors when the Blues opened the scoring after 10 min. Marc Stryzewski played the ball out wide to Micky Buckley whose low cross was met at the near post by Courney Bonnick for his first goal for the senior side.
The Blues went further ahead when a free kick by the impressive Danny Chambers was turned into his own net by defender Paul Mattison, leaving keeper Cowell stranded.
The visitors had barely ventured into the Blues half , with new keeper Rollins virtually a spectator. Chances fell to Bonnick,Steadman and Burton before Allsop crashed a header against the bar from a Burton corner, the ball finally being cleared.
HALF TIME LONG EATON 2 GLASSHOUGHTON 0
The Blues ,now facing the wind , kept up the pressure with Cowell getting down well to a Marc Stryzewski shot before the Blues increased their lead through the hard working Micky Buckley. Ben Burton rounded full back Shelley and floated over a beautiful cross which Buckley brought down under pressure and volleyed the ball into the roof of the net, giving keeper Cowell no chance. With the Blues sitting back on their lead, the visitors came more into the game, substitute Mat McCall heading a shot off the line before Glasshoughton pulled a goal back, Lewis Wallace firing a loose ball past the unsighted Rollinson on 82 min.
